Week 6 - PODCASTING

What is Podcasting - in Plain English
Digital Recording



Objectives :
  • Students will select an appropriate Nursery Rhyme/speech/poem/short story/limerick or other approved writing
  • Students will record in audacity the story and add sound effects and music
  • Students will edit the recording, save, publish and export it as an MP3 file
  • Students will download a jpg or png file of a related image that goes with their recording and save it to the desktop
  • Student will upload the jpg or png image and the mp3 file to embed into their digital portfolio page
  • Students will assess themselves with checklist 1-4

Instructions:
  • Select a children’s story or Nursery Rhyme/speech/poem/short story/limerick or other approved writing
  • Read and record it into Audacity - see handout for instructions
  • Once it sounds fluent go to freeplay music.com and add music
  • Go to freesound and add sound effects - log on with dpscentennial student - download the "wav" file format
  • Edit, attach sound effects and music till you are proud of your work
  • Save your project
  • Export your project as an MP3 file and save in your desktop folder
  • Download and an appropriate image to go with your podcast save both to your desktop folder
  • Embed your both the image and the podcast bar below it into your wikispace by following the instructions below
How to EMBED a file, widget or video into your website:
  1. Go to wikispaces.com
  2. log in as dpscentennial / student
  3. under my wikis on the top you will see the centennial student digital portfolios
  4. click on it
  5. navigate to your page
  6. click EDIT
  7. Put your cursor where you want your item to be embedded - make room with the enter key
  8. Click FILE to upload a jpg or sound file or pdf or other file type
  9. click UPLOAD FILE
  10. click BROWSE - select the pdf or jpg or MP3 file you wish from your folder on the desktop
  11. Click on that file name once it completely uploads with an image - this will place it on your page
  12. Adjust the corners so it is a good size relative to the rest of your page
  13. SAVE
  14. LOG OUT of wikispaces
Then……
1) Self assessment – fill out your grade and effort based on the rubric – then have one on one discussion with teacher for feedback
2) Go to Digital Student Portfolios – upload your image with your audacity podcast below it
3) Go to class website and fill out final evaluation survey and feedback form
4) If you get finished….Go to Learning.com and complete sequence of tech learning modules
